We launched two new COB work lights during our Christmas sale: Swivel Pro and Swivel Pro Max. The Swivel Pro is an upgraded version of the Swivel. And, the Swivel Pro Max is an upgraded version of the Swivel Pro. Do you know what is COB light? What is the difference between Swivel, Swivel Pro, and Swivel Pro Max? And what has been upgraded from Pro and Pro Max? This article will help you find the answer. Let's get started.
What Is COB Light?
COB is an acronym meaning Chip On Board. It describes the technology behind the COB lights, referring to the packed LED chips mounted in direct contact with silicon carbide or sapphire substrate. With COB technology, LEDs are stacked on a small surface to provide a high density.
COB light is constructed of many LED chips packed closely together. Because LED chips are compact, you can't see any space between them. Therefore, COB lights produce very bright and uniform beams of light.
The COB light source is a continuous light source. It is a type of LED light that you can place anywhere and have it illuminate the subject for hours. It can be held or mounted on a light pole, kept in the studio, or taken with you. When using a COB light, you can change the direction and intensity of the light as you like and the setup will always remain the same.
What is the Difference Between COB LED and SMD LED?
A COB light is a type of LED light. Thus, the real difference is between a COB light and another type of LED light, such as LED panels. A LED panel is, most of the time, an SMD (Surface Mounted Device) LED light.
With a COB light, you’ll have more diodes and a simpler circuit design that produces a compact light. On the other hand, a LED panel has fewer diodes and a more complex circuit design and looks like a collection of small lights. It can also be larger and heavier than a COB light.
The design and appearance aren’t the only differences. COB lights use less energy and heat than SMD lights. A COB light produces 80 lumens per watt, whereas SMD light can produce between 50 and 100 lumens per watt. As opposed to LED panels, it is not capable of creating colored light or color-changing effects. With SMD lights, you can adjust the color temperature more easily.
Due to its uniform illumination in all directions, an SMD light can be used as a point light. A COB light, however, emits a uniform beam of light, so it is better suited as a top light when illuminating a subject or surface from above.
Why Choose the COB lights?
In summary, chip-on-board LEDs are the latest and most advanced technology on the market today. Simply put, COB LEDs are brighter, consume less power, and output a higher quality beam of light compared to older LED technologies found in most other trade show lighting today.
The advantages of Chip-on-Board LED arrays are:
Compactness, due to the small size of the LED chip
High intensity, particularly at close distances
High uniformity, even at close working distances
Best thermal performance for better lifetime, stability, and reliability
Where are COB Lights Used?
The possibilities for COB LEDs made it a wide range application device from household uses to industrial utilities, some of them are:
LED lighting fixtures with wide-angle beams can be used in living rooms and large halls.
Various types of lighting, including high-bay lights, street lights, and downlights.
Nighttime illumination of large stadiums, playgrounds, and gardens is required.
Olight's COB Work Lights
Swivel is Olight's first COB LED light. Then comes the Odiance. It is a multi-use work light. By rotating the stepless brightness switch, you can get any brightness level you want.
Recently, Olight launched two new COB work lights, Swivel Pro and Swivel Pro Max. Both of them are the upgraded version of Swivel.
